Shang Shung Institute of America

School of Tibetan Medicine

Announces

The Khenpo Tsenam Rinpoche Scholarship Fund

Request for Applications for 2011-2012 Academic Year

Deadline:  June 30, 2011

The first scholarship fund to support students in the Shang Shung Institute School of Tibetan Medicine has been established.

In honor of our lineage of Tibetan Medicine, the fund has been named after Khenpo Tsenam Rinpoche, one of Tibet's foremost doctors, credited with the revival of Tibetan Medicine within Tibet.  He was the teacher of Dr. Phuntsog Wangmo and many of the Shang Shung Institute’s visiting faculty members. For more information about Khenpo Tsenam Rinpoche, please see his biography here.

The scholarship fund was established by a grant from J. Crow Co., in 2010 with an invitation for matching contributions.  In 2011, the scholarship will be funded in the same way, with another generous matching grant opportunity from the J. Crow Co.  Please help us reach our target match of $2500, for a total of $5000 towards the continuation of the scholarship fund.  The deadline for reaching the challenge amount given by the donor is: May 9, 2011.

Eligibility: Applicants must be full-time students in the four year Shang Shung Institute of America Tibetan Medicine Program, and have completed at least two years of study in the program by June 30, 2011.

The board and staff of the SSI-USA will choose the winner or winners for this year's scholarship(s) by the beginning of the Fall, 2011 semester.  Last year we were proud to be able to offer scholarships to two of our students for the 2010-2011 school year, based solely upon the donations collected from generous donors like you!  We would love to be able to continue offering this wonderful gift of learning!
